The Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) gave the 2009 National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Metropolitan Transportation Planning to the DCHC MPO and its neigbor, CAMPO.

Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC-MPO) is the regional
organization responsible for transportation planning for the western
part of the Research Triangle area in North Carolina.
Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) were first established almost fifty years ago by an act of Congress to perform transportation planning functions for urbanized areas. The DCHC MPO was founded in 1980.
