Home MenuAir Quality / Climate Change
The first goal listed in the DCHC MPO’s 2045 Goals and Objectives reads “Protect environment and minimize climate change.” This goal is backed up with objectives that seek to reduce mobile source emissions, greenhouse gases and energy consumption, and to reduce the negative impacts that the transportation system has on the natural and cultural environment. The MPO’s plans and projects support this environmental goal. However, there are additional MPO initiatives that go beyond plans, programming and projects to provide even greater support, including:
-
The MPO partnered with the City of Durham and Durham County to create the Durham County Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory and Local Action Plan
-
The MPO carries out Air Quality Conformity on the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) and Transportation Improvement Program (TIP)
-
The MPO invests federal CMAQ (Congestion Mitigation/Air Quality) funding in projects and programs that reduce the emissions of hazardous air pollutants.
