There are a variety of funding sources available to plan for and improve roadway safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians.  Funding is made available through DCHC MPO’s Call for Projects, local funds, NCDOT, and through a variety of grant programs.  Many funding opportunities require a local match commitment by the MPO member agency.

The following funding opportunities are available to help support the bicycle and pedestrian project delivery:

  • DCHC MPO’s Call for Projects funds:
    • Transportation Alternatives Program Direct Attributable (TAPDA)
    • Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG-DA)
    • Carbon Reduction Program (CRP)
    • Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ)
  • Strategic Transportation Prioritization process (SPOT)
  • State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) funds
  • NCDOT Governor's Highway Safety Program
  • Funding from local town, city and county sources
  • USDOT Discretionary Grants Dashboard
