The DCHC MPO works with the transit systems to coordinate long-range transit planning in the area. The MPO distributes federal and state funding for capital, operating, maintenance, and planning grants. With Durham and Orange County, it supports the County Transit Plan Funding (the Tax District), which is administered by GoTriangle.

The reader can find transit schedules and service information at the transit system websites listed at:

These systems operate in several different capacities, most commonly known as either fixed route service or demand response service.

  • Fixed route services are routes that operate on the same schedule week to week and at the same bus stops, such as the Chapel Hill "A Route" or the GoTriangle "Route ODX".
  • Demand response service does not follow a specific route and offers "curb-to-curb" service, such as what you would expect with a Taxi or Uber/Lyft. Demand response typically limits service to those who are elderly, disabled, or living in a rural area, and are those such as GoDurham Access or Orange County's demand response program.

To start planning a fixed route trip, use Google Maps. Type in your origin and destination, and click on the "transit" icon.

To learn if you are eligible for a demand response trip, contact the local provider in your area from the list above. If you are not sure who your local provider is, you may contact the Regional Information Center (through GoTriangle) by emailing customerservice@gotriangle.org or calling 919-485-7433 for assistance.
