The MPO participated in the development and design of the East End Connector, which will connect US 70 to NC 147 (Durham Freeway), thereby providing a limited-access highway connection between I-85 and I-40. As of fall 2014, the project is in right-of-way acquisition, is scheduled to be let (i.e., a construction contract awarded to a firm) in November 2014, and will likely start to be constructed in April 2015. The TIP identity number for this project is U-0071. An internet search of “east end connector” will provide additional sources of information. The project is sometimes referred to as the Triangle Connector.
